32MB Memory Extension for AKAI Sampler

This memory extension is an adapter which makes it possible to use standard SIMM's to extend the memory of the sampler . In general it is only possible to extend Akai samplers with company-own moduls . Only the newest models have the possibility to use standard memory. The adapter is suitable for the following sampler types:

S2800(i)

CD3000(i)

S3000(i)

S3200

Notes: Not suitable for S3000XL or S3200XL.

The aim of this upgrade is to reach 32MB. Please note, that it is actually possible to reach this value with the S2800(i) and the CD3000(i). These two machines were only artificially reduced by simply leaving out two connectors on the mainboard. Thus, only two instead of four 8MB boards could be installed.

Installation:

No OS update required! The Extension is plug &play!

• To start with remove the power cord and open the sampler case.
• Then remove all installed memory moduls. Original name EXM3002(2MB) or EXM3008(8MB).
• Now install the adapter with the SIMM's inserted in a free memory slot- it doesn't matter which one.
• Now you haave to connect three wires to the empty slots( pin 1). The order of the wires is not important.
• If you own a S2800(i) or CD3000(i) you have to cut off two of the little connectors and directly solder the cables to the PCB.
• After installation it looks like this: S2800, S3000i , CD3000i
• Now you can close the sampler case and insert the power cord.
• If you see the message"16 MWORDS" (= 32MB) for a short time after you have switched on the sampler, everything is ok.

At first you will only see "8 MWORDS" at S2800 because you have to bridge J1 at the mainboard.
Unfortunately there is a side effect after closing J1.The name keys A-H and I-P will be swapped around because the sampler is in S3000 mode now.

The 32MB memory extension consists of an adapter(see the picture above) and 2x16MB SIMM (30pin) .
Please use only these SIMM's for the adapter. All other SIMM's are not recommend, though they would be mechanically suited.
The warranty period for the adapter and SIMM is 2 years.
